CrossFit Strong State of Mind! |
|
|
We challenged all our athletes to write a blog about their experience here at Crossfit Strong. Then we opened it up to the public to vote on which one they liked the best! And how awesome is it that our Athlete of the Month won with –
Crossfit State of Mind!
Take a look:
Lately, everyone keeps asking me, “Pa’Shun, how did you lose all that weight?” They always seem really interested until I tell them
the answer, CrossFit Strong.
I can’t help but giggle when I explain what CrossFit is because I know they expect me to tell them that I’ve been on the
latest fad diet or floating through some
trendy exercise program.
I can see all the excuses begin to formulate when I tell them it took me six months of high intensity workouts, at least three times a week, to lose 27 lbs. “I’m too old for that kind of exercise”, “I’m too busy to work out that much” or “I have this old knee injury”.
All to which I reply, “Hey! We have 40+ year olds who run a 10K in less than hour. There are CrossFit sessions all day, 6 days a week. I have tendonitis in both knees. Plus, I have this sciatic nerve that bitches more
than a mother-in-law with a kid who’s dating an ex-con!”
I go on to explain that the weight loss is just a by-product.
What makes CrossFit stand apart from other fitness programs is that they have found the fundamental key to creating a strong and healthy body…simply construct a strong, healthy mind!
“What the head does, the body will follow.” Truer words have never been spoken. If your head tells your body firmly enough to dead-lift 95lbs, it will do it. If your head tells your body, with confidence, that you can do 100 sit-ups, it will.
I know these things because I’ve done them. Every time I complete a Workout of the Day (WOD), I feel like I can do anything.
I no longer look at life as a series of obstacles, but a series of challenges that I attack and devour. I owe my renewed spirit to this program because it has taught me that I’m a strong, incredible woman who doesn’t have to back down from any barrier that stands in my way.
Another other key component to my dramatic change, which is both physical and mental, is the members. The way I see it is that our society has developed a process of people feeling the need to file themselves (and each other) into groups, all in effort to make sure we end up on the right side. We’re right wing or left wing, homosexual or heterosexual, man or woman, black or white, Christian or Muslim, so on and so forth.
These divisive attitudes are far too prevalent and only serving to unravel the threads that bind us together. Such is not the case with CrossFit
Strong. I mean, I just love lining up as we prepare to start a run at the beginning of WOD. I always place myself at the end of the line just so I can look to my left and take note of all the people standing with me. A distinct feeling of elation comes over me as I stand side by side with such a diverse group of people. Different races, ages, genders from all walks of life. There are single moms, cops, home makers, students and doctors. All there on line with the same goal, to get busy living life!
I can see the disappointment in people’s eyes when I explain to them that CrossFit is not some magic pill, that there’s not “an app for it” or an easy button. There’s no new innovative excises machine that you can get on for only thirty minutes a week. It’s simply high intensity workouts that challenge and push you out of your comfort zone combined with a diet that removes the bad sugars and processed foods. It is by doing these things you develop into the best “you” you have ever been. I know because that’s exactly what I’m becoming.
As they start to walk off with a guilty expression on their faces, I just smile and hand them a CrossFit Strong business card and say, “For when you’re ready.” |

Are You Ready to get your RUN on! |
|
|
We have had a lot of questions about the endurance program so we compiled a list of common questions. This program is a GREAT way to improve your running -
whether you are training for a specific race or just want to improve your running in WODs

Endurance FAQ
Q: What exactly is the Endurance Program?
A: The endurance program is a skill-based program focusing specifically on the sport of running.
Q: I'm not interested in training for a marathon or a race, but I would like to improve my running
times during the WOD's. Will Endurance help?
A: Absolutely! If you are simply interested in getting faster or building up your stamina for the WODs, then Endurance will help. Just like the various skills used in Crossfit, Endurance training is focused on efficiency of movement, technique and form. If your squat form is bad, then your front squat and overhead squat will also suffer. If you have poor running form, then your running will reflect this in both time and distance capabilities. The endurance coaches will help analyze your form, make recommendations, and teach you skills and drills to practice your movements so that you can improve at the sport of running.
Q: Must I sign up for Endurance or can I just drop-in?
A: Drop-in's are not allowed. You must pre-register for the program. There is a registration link from the Home Page under Announcements.
Q: What if I cannot attend and evening workshop?
A: Email us at run@crossfitstrong.com and we will arrange for an alternate time.
Please take a few minutes and check out the new Endurance link (next to the WOD link on the home page) for more information about the program. Or, keep sending the emails to run@crossfitstrong.com and we will get back with you as soon as possible!
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, THERE IS NO WORKSHOP OR RUN ON MONDAY, JULY 5TH. THE FIRST TRAINING RUN IS TUESDAY, JULY 6TH. JULY WORKSHOPS WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, JULY 12 & MONDAY, JULY 18.
