Tackling ALZ

Hello Strong!

For those of you that know me and are Friends with me on Facebook, you already know wayyy too much about the organization I am participating in for the second summer, Blondes vs. Brunettes Dallas. For those of you that dont know, please read on... I want to make sure you dont think I am mud wrestling... or any other activity your mind may have traveled to because of that name.

Fun name aside, the purpose of this organization is focused on spreading awareness about Alzheimers and fundraising for the DFW Chapter of the Alzheimers Association so that they can support the more than 70,000 Dallasites affected by the disease. With the "Fun" name of Blondes vs. Brunettes, or BvB for short, the organization has been able to mobilize the younger generation (and companies) to get involved in a cause that usually doesnt affect an individual and family much later in life. Many of the BvB participants fundraise and play in honor of grandparents that are currently battling Alzheimers or in their memory. A small minority of participants my own age (27) are playing to honor the memory of a parent that passed away due to Alzheimers... in their 50s! With a serious cause taken to heart, every year Blondes vs. Brunettes has exceeded their fundraising goals with the help of the Dallas community. Last year marked year 5 and a remarkable milestone for a young non-profit, tipping the scale at having raised over $1,000,000 for the Alzheimers Assocation, Greater Dallas Chapter.

My personal reason for playing isnt a tear jerker, unlike some of my friends stories. My grandmother, on my mothers side, recently passed away from Alzheimers. She had been battling Alzheimers for almost 10 years. My mothers family all live in Indiana and Illinois. Due to the distance, I dont see them very often and I am not as close with them. Its sad that sometimes it takes a death in the family to remind you of the importance of family. For me, I felt I had missed out on being present, active and helpful while a part of my family was battling Alzheimers. If anyone knows how Alzheimers works, it isnt One Single person that is affected, it touches Everyone that cares about that person; family and friends - no matter the distance. I am participating and fundraising to feel like I am Doing Something to give back, to feel like I am making a small difference here because I felt I couldnt with my grandmother.

Now that you understand I dont mud wrestle Blondes, I can share the real purpose for my post! The Blondes vs. Brunettes Dallas fundraising season culminates in a Game Day. Brunettes face off with the Blondes in a pretty epic Flag Football Game Aug. 17th... sorry, still no mud invovled. While Summer is our fundraising season, BvB is doing 3 things: Individual Fundraising, Practicing Flag Football for Gameday, and Throwing Parties! So if you are looking for something fun to do that has a Great Cause behind it, join us at the following events! I would love to see you! We are sponsored by BudLight, Uber, WFFA, The Ticket Radio & Camp Gladiator (sorry Gale) to list a few!
