Omega-3 Fatty Acids

A natural supplement that can be found in your supermarkets vitamin aisle, omega-3 fatty acids, aid in brain health. Many misconceptions surround dietary intake of fat in our culture, but there are such things as good fats, and omega-3, the good fats found in fish, help in brain health, as well as the health of our entire nervous system.

Our brains weight is actually 60% fat, and the hundred billion neurons, or nerve cells in the brain require essential fatty acids (EFAs) to function.
Myelin is the white fatty external covering of neurons, and helps in the conduction of nerve impulses. Taking In omega-3 helps build myelin, and myelin insulates neurons, which aids in the speed of conduction. So,, when we take EFAs such as omega-3, nerve conduction increases in speed. This helps in basically everything we do.

Foods that contain omega-3 include fish, avocados, flaxseed oil, and walnuts.

Good question. I looked it up online and apparently they feed the chickens an omega-3 rich diet. It would make sense, as the foods that the mother eats, and the nutritional value of those foods, have a direct effect on the chicken embryo that she carries before she lays her eggs. I got it from this blog (he is a PhD in neurobiology) : http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/2009/11/omega-3-eggs.html

One of my old roommates thought it would be a good idea to cook her eggs with fish oil! Kill 2 birds with one stone. Epic failure. LOL!

You could bake in the omega-3 along with the ingredients, but there would be something fishy about that cake!

Nice, simple explanation. Thanks Carlos!  Too bad you can't find Omega 3 in chocolate cake!  LOL!
